EMPLOYERS were rewarded last night for devotion to their staff and for going the extra mile to help their company.
After a strong entry to the North East Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development HR awards, the winners were proud to accept their trophies at a special ceremony last night.
The awards were organised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in association with Newcastle-based Nigel Wright Recruitment and in partnership with The Journal.
They celebrate people who have gone the extra mile in recruitment and training and around 400 people attended an events dinner and awards ceremony at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton last night to celebrate the successes.
CIPD North East chair Catherine Attwell said: ?This year is a double celebration as we mark the CIPD centenary recognising 100 years of leading HR into the future and celebrating the very best that human resources and development has to offer.
?These awards give North East businesses the chance to showcase the very best innovations in our region. In terms of the judging process, it has been a difficult decision selecting the winners . We?ve had a high number of quality submissions. We really do appreciate and thank everyone who has shared with us our achievements year and who have inspired future generations.
?We have been through some tough times and I think companies are now confident enough about the economy to talk about their success. We?ve seen a wider range of businesses submitting entries for this year?s awards which is fantastic. In particular, we?ve seen an increase in manufacturing applications which is really inspiring, as this sector has taken a knock in recent years.?
Tony Weightman, deputy North East chairman, said: ?We?ve enhanced the level of entries this year, but we?ve also added to the variety of organisations taking part. There are more manufacturing organisations taking part, which is a sector we?ve felt for a long time has been underrepresented at the awards.
?Companies are focused, looking after their staff and making the most of the talent they have in their organisation. The companies that we have seen are very confident about their future and there is a really positive atmosphere in the business world and organisations value the staff they have. The awards are in their seventh year now and more and more organisations are taking part as they get more established. We?re pleased to see entries from national organisations like Walkers crisps and Greggs taking part for the first time this year. These awards celebrate the success of North East businesses and organisations.?
