The Cardinals are coming off of a 6-4 victory in where Carlos Beltran and David Freese both went deep. Being effective against these two hitters will be the key to success for the San Francisco Giants pitching staff.

In 133 October at-bats, Carlos Beltran's career OPS is 1.305 and OBP is .485. This ranks him 1st in MLB history in each category! Beltran has 14 career postseason home runs which is only 2nd to Albert Pujols. Beltran is also in an elite group with Babe Ruth and Pujols in being the only players to bat .325 or more and have 14 or more home runs in the post-season.?
Thus far in the post season in 2012, Beltran is 5 for 15 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. This man is dangerous. Expect San Francisco to approach with caution.?

As for David Freese, he's hit 25 RBI's in his first 25 post-season games. Only Lou Gehrig has had more. In 7 LCS games, Freese has a .500 BA, .552 OBP, .1077 slugging %, and 1.179 OPS. In the amount of at-bats, he ranks number 1 in baseball history. These are just sick numbers and David Freese will look to help to take this series back home with the Cards being up 2-0. ?
Starting pitching matchup?
Chris Carpenter takes the mound for the Cardinals and he'll be opposed by veteran Ryan Vogelsong. This is a fairly even matchup although Carpenter has seen much action this season. He's 0-2 with a 3.71 ERA in just 3 regular season starts, but when it counted, he shutout the Nationals in 5 2/3 of work in the playoffs on October 10th. Carpenter is also a career 4-1 with a 3.57 ERA in 8 starts against the Giants.?
San Francisco has a deep starting pitching rotation and Vogelsong has had a superb season with a 14-9 record and flashy 3.37 ERA. He's also only allowed 1 run in each of his last 4 starts (3 regular season starts and 1 playoff start). Vogelsong held a tough Cincinnati Reds team to just 1 run and 3 hits in 5 innings on October 9th. His history against the Cards is poor, but look for him to put forth his best effort in a dead even pitching matchup.?
San Francisco will be looking for the trio of Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, and Hunter Pence to provide some offense in this game. They were a combined 1 for 10 in game 1. ?
Aside from being a MVP candidate, Buster Posey is a career 15 for 40 (.375) with 2 HR and 7 RBI and a .487 OBP against St.Louis for his career.?
MLB betting odds list the Giants as a slight -112 favorite and the betting total is listed at 6.5 runs.?
I don't equate this series to the Yankees/Tigers series. Unlike the Yankees, the Giants have young talent and the crowd (which is capacity full), isn't corporate based. This is a motivated baseball team that knows the importance of tonight's game. This game should go to the bullpens but San Francisco at home get's the edge.?
