With the Conservatives ensnarled in the biggest political scandal in their seven years in government, a new poll suggests Justin Trudeau?s Liberals are en route to winning a massive majority in the next election.
More than four in 10 Canadians, 44%, said they would vote Liberal in the next federal election, according to latest Forum Poll for the National Post, compared to 27% support for the ruling Conservatives and 20% for the opposition NDP.
The notable thing here for me isn?t that the Liberals are taking advantage of the Tories being mired in scandal, it?s that the NDP somehow find themselves?less?popular than both.
After the BC election, there?s been this narrative (floated mostly by the NDP) that you can?t be ?positive? and win, I?d argue that Dix?s problem wasn?t that he didn?t attack the Liberals hard enough, but the positive campaign he ran lacked any sort of convincing vision (and also, at times, sensible policy).
Layton, of course, didn?t win the election, but shooting up 67-seats in the last election has to be considered a win and it was done largely on the back of Layton pushing policy that actually resonated with Canadians and also not being a total d-bag. Conversely, under Mulcair, they?ve attacked the Tories hard (and also Mulcair is a total d-bag) and now their sitting back in 3rd place.
