The New Milford Express 15-and-under baseball team advanced to the Babe Ruth District 4 championship round with a 4-3 victory over Brookfield on Tuesday.
New Milford will play in the championship on Saturday in Ridgefield against an opponent to be determined.
Jackson Olson pitched a two-hitter to lead New Milford to Tuesday's win in a game that featured four lead changes. Tim Rehm came on in the seventh to seal the win. Gavin Giardino took the loss for Brookfield.
Sacrifice bunts by Noah Dixon and Kyler Cyr moved runners into scoring position in the fourth and sixth innings for New Milford, and clutch hits by Cooper Knight, Jack Titus, Ryan Fabich and Chris Usaty drove in the go-ahead runs in the sixth.
Fabich had three singles, Olson had a triple and a single, Knight had two doubles and Vinnie Palliscohad a double and a single.
AMERICAN LEGION
New Milford 4, Oxford 0 -- New Milford took the first game of a doubleheader on July 6, as Matt Brew pitched a one-hit shutout. He struck out eight and walked five. Daniel Kudej took the loss for Oxford despite pitching a four-hitter with four walks and 11 strikeouts. Grayson Makris had a three-run double in the third inning for New Milford. Chris Sutay singled for Oxford in the sixth.
Oxford 14, New Milford 5 -- Oxford won the second game of the July 6 doubleheader. Chris Sutay's three-run homer in the third put Oxford on the board first. He added a three-run triple in the fourth. Dylan Mitola went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kyle Chudoba earned the win on the mound. For New Milford, Dan Hedden went 2-for-3 with two runs and Corey Jerolmon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.
New Milford 5, Ridgefield 1 -- Corey Jerolmon pitched a five-hitter and did not allow an earned run in the July 7 win for New Milford (9-17, 7-13). He struck out two and walked three. Dan Hedden, Jerolmon and Matt Brew each had two hits. Liam Smith hadc two hits for Ridgefield.
